A direct prohibition telling someone not to perform an action. It is forceful and appears in warnings, signs, commands and close or rough speech.

How related patterns differ 比較
てください requests an action; ないでください asks someone not to act. なさい often comes from an authority figure. てもいい permits; てはいけない prohibits. Prohibitive forms and べからず can be stronger or more formal, so social context matters.
