と言っても (to ittemo): Although one says so, the reality is more limited
~と言っても (to ittemo)
Meaning
Although I say; even though it is called
Formation and usage
Phrase or plain clause + といっても, followed by a qualification or limitation of what was just stated.
Explanation
Qualify something just stated so that the listener does not overestimate it. The following clause often explains that the reality is more limited or different from what the expression suggests. It is not simply any concessive connector.
Examples
料理ができるといっても、簡単なものだけです。
Although I say I can cook, I can only make simple dishes.

How related patterns differ
と言えば/というと brings up an associated topic. といったら can emphasize an extraordinary degree. といっても qualifies a statement, while というより offers a more accurate description. ということだ reports or summarizes information, unlike evaluative というものだ.
